It Is Finished: Jesus’ Last Word
As Jesus died, the Gospel of John records at his dying breath a single word: tetelestai! It is finished! Jesus’ work was completed on the cross. But the Greek word here was also used to signal the end of a transaction, when the price had been paid in full. The death of Jesus paid in full the debt owed for sin, once and for all. Has his payment been applied to your account or do you insist on paying the debt for your sins on your own?
